If you’re a fan of products and gastronomy with history, you can’t miss the Mondeju Fair in Amezketa! This special event celebrates one of the most traditional products of Tolosaldea and Goierri: the mondeju. It’s a dish that connects us to our roots, inviting us to savor the richness of our land.
Mondeju: A Culinary Treasure with History
At the foot of Mount Txindoki, mondeju has been a symbol of the culture of Amezketa and the Aralar region, passed down from generation to generation. It originated by making use of sheep that, at the end of September, no longer produced milk when they came down from the mountains. And it's much more than a simple sausage: it is the result of ancient knowledge, shared in farmhouses and passed on from mothers to daughters, that has adapted with time.
This flavorful dish, mainly prepared with sheep meat and leeks, has symbolized family bonds (mondeju meals). Today, thanks to local bars and kitchens, we can enjoy this culinary treasure in a festive and cozy atmosphere.

On [date], Amezketa’s square will come alive, filled with flavors and aromas, offering a unique day that will take you to the heart of our traditions. Come and enjoy mondeju as the star, alongside some of the finest wines from the Basque Country.
Event Program:
- 11:00: III sheepdog exhibition in honor of Joseba Eraso. At Jauregi Handiko field.
- 12:00 - 16:00: Mondeju pintxos and Basque wine tasting. 9 local mondeju producers will offer their delicacies.

- Kids' corner with various games
- Local producers' area: stewed lamb from Loidi and Lizeaga farms, and cheese from Oteiza Goikoa.
