Sepherd for a day in Urkiola
The shepherd, Patxi Solana, invites us to share his day in Alluitz Natura, a country house situated in one of the most impressive landscapes in the Basque Country, Urkiola Natural Park.
We begin our adventure in the country house where the farm and cheese dairy are situated, assisting Patxi in milking the sheep, and, if it's the right time of year, we also help to shear the sheep. With the milk obtained, we make fresh cheese or curd, or if we prefer, we can take part in a soap-making workshop.
Following this, we take a stroll through the fields of this stunning natural setting, accompanied by Harri, the Border Collie sheepdog. You will be amazed at Harri's skill in rounding up the Basque latxa sheep from one field to another, following the orders of the shepherd.
The experience includes:
- Milking sheep and possibly shearing them (depending on the season).
- Making curds and soap.
- Artisan wool transformation workshop.
- Idiazabal cheese tasting.
- Strolling through the pastures with the flock and the sheepdog.
- Bottle-feeding new-born lambs (November)
Does not include:
- Transport to the location.
